‘Monumental’ preservation of The Hague’s ‘Hollands Spoor’ railway station

02/07/2010

In early April we received the order from ProRail for painting the platform roofs of the National monument ‘Hollands Spoor’ railway station building in The Hague. Here we are providing a paint system for some 25,000 square metres of steel and 12,000 square metres of wood.

‘Den Haag HS’ railway station, (‘Station Hollands Spoor’) is the oldest station in The Hague. It was opened in 1843 when the ‘Old Line’ from Amsterdam was continued from Leiden through to The Hague. In 1847 the line was extended through to Rotterdam. The station has had a Royal Waiting Room since 1893. On the night of 14 to 15 October 1989, shortly after a restoration, a fire was started by an intruder in the station restaurant. The fire destroyed the railway platform building and a part of the railway platform roof. The building was later restored back to its historical state.

Now, 21 years later, we have the pleasure of once again providing the whole roof with a paint system. The entire project will be completed towards the end of 2011.
